Serving Others & Seeking Justice
LaMP is committed to finding ways to live out Christian faith by serving others and doing what we can to create a more just community and world. This includes learning, volunteering, and doing advocacy work together. In the past, we have participated in protests, engaged in faith-based advocacy around immigration and hunger, and taken trips to the U.S.-Mexico border to learn about immigration and the southern U.S. to learn about racial justice work. We plan to new find ways to engage in learning and justice advocacy this year as well.
Because the pandemic has increased hunger significantly in our community and decreased the number of available volunteers, LaMP is focusing this semester on connecting student volunteers with the soup kitchen and food pantry at Broadway Community, housed at Broadway Presbyterian Church. Broadway Community serves hundreds of food insecure neighbors each week. All students of all and no faith traditions are welcome and encouraged to volunteer. There is no religious program involved in this volunteering - it is simply a chance to serve others and connect with neighbors. Interested in signing up? Email Becca.
Have a green thumb? Is your inner gardener being stifled by the city? We are looking for students to help take the lead with the newly reborn rooftop vegetable garden at Broadway Presbyterian. Tasks will vary by season but this is a great chance to get your hands dirty and take ownership of this cool project that will help feed hungry neighbors. Want to get involved? Email Becca.
