Retreats, Service & Justice
LaMP is committed to finding ways to live out Christian faith by serving others and doing what we can to create a more just community and world. This includes learning, volunteering, and doing advocacy work together. In the past, we have participated in protests, engaged in faith-based advocacy around immigration and hunger, and taken trips to the U.S.-Mexico border to learn about immigration and the southern U.S. to learn about racial justice work.
LaMP is also committed to resisting productivity and achievement culture by finding times to rest, pray, and have fun. Join us for opportunities to be replenished together throughout the year through retreats, fun outings, and more.
Upcoming programs and events in fall 2023 include:
Small Group: Gender Identity & Faith
Join students from across The Vine network as we read Austen Hartke's Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians together. This will be an affirming space to explore, learn, and re-examine some of the ideas that we've heard about gender, scripture, and Christian faith. The group will meet 3-4 times in the fall semester of 2023. Time and location (online or in person) are to be determined based on the schedules of students who want to participate. Interested? Let Becca know by September 30.
Fall Day Retreat
Saturday, October 21, 2023
9am-1:30pm
All students are welcome to join The Vine community as we head up about an hour north of the city for a chance to do some hiking and be replenished in the beauty of God's creation. We will also do a little side trip to a pumpkin patch. Transportation is provided from uptown Manhattan via car or van. Bring a sack lunch. Participation is free but please email Becca at pastor@thevinenyc.org by 10/13 to RSVP.
